Usual dilemma

Ugh. So I've got 'Project Grizzly' and a czech movie 'Up and Down', neither of which I've seen yet. I want to see both, but I've also had both for a few days, so I feel like renting new movies. It's 10:06pm and the video store closes at midnight. I'd have to change too. Again.
I could flip a coin, but I wouldn't end up following through anyhow.

Bah, biscuits!

The Humanoid Pig

... wasn't all that great.

Porco Rosso

So now that I've sat here for a productive hour of debating whether to get movies or not, I've decided to make do with what I have. Part of that decision was made because of the following (pasted from IMDB):

Porco Rosso
Plot Outline: The adventures of a 1930's bush pilot who just happens to look like a humanoid pig. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104652/)

How cool is that?! So yea, I'm gonna watch that bad boy right after I make myself a near-midnight-snack, which knowing me, will probably turn out to be more like a second dinner. No wonder I get excited over films with humanoid pigs...

Why I'm Weird (1 of Googolplex)

Right now, I have three DVD's that I rented. I watched one of the DVDs, but haven't seen the two others yet. I've had them for about three days or so. The odd thing is, I want to go and rent DVDs!
That means returning the unwatched flics and getting three different ones. So I think what's happening here is that I must subconsciously enjoy the anticipation of having the option of watching a movie. After having the movies for a while, anticipating watching them becomes old, and I need new material to anticipate. I rent at Hollywood video, with the plan where you pay a fixed monthly fee and can rent as much as you want (releases less than a few weeks old excluded). Since I've gotten on this plan, I've returned about 30 to 40% of movies unwatched. There are movies I've rented three times, to watch only once.
So here I sit, at 9:40pm, after having been out and about for work nearly 12 hours, and I want to return two movies that I haven't watched yet, because the idea of watching them doesn't excite me. Maybe I just like having three options. So I can watch one, and if that sucks, I got a backup, and a backup for the backup.
Am I really just feeding my anticipation? So many times I've done exactly what I feel like doing now, returning three movies, two of which I haven't watched, to rent three new movies, but then end up not watching any movies that night.

Does anyone else do these kinds of things?

I am but a boy

These days there are some pretty bad stereotypes associated with men. They involve anything from a man's personal hygiene and practices, to his respect for females, to his relationship with beer and the remote control. Being male myself, I know that many of those stereotypes have some truth to them. I'll shamefully admit that I've lived up to the odd one myself.

But in my head, the ideal Man or what every real man should be, is very different. With some redundancy in the different entries, here goes.

A Man:
  • has control of his emotions and desires
  • is calm
  • is slow to speak and quick to listen
  • is self disciplined
  • walks tall in silent pride of his accomplishments
  • (yet) is humble and respectful towards every other form of life, from fellow humans to the plankton in the oceans
  • knows his place in the universe and smiles contently at this
  • is more noble as a slave, than many a person as a king
  • is constantly seeking to better himself
  • is selfless and giving in every way
  • has honor and principles
  • knows that the only way to attain wisdom is by humbling himself
  • takes more than his share of the blame and less than his share of the credit (John C. Maxwell came up with this before I could)
  • is benevolent towards all
  • has a tremendous capacity to love everyone
  • can love and respect others, without his happiness relying on their reciprocating him
  • is loyal all his days
  • behaves the same in secret, as he would in public
  • takes pleasure in other's happiness
  • needs little, yet enjoys even the smallest of things with gratitude, considering them a bonus to be treasured
  • does not hold back forgiving and loving those who wronged him
  • constantly seeks to understand himself and others better
  • is passionate in his love for others and all that is right
  • doesn't talk much about his ideals; lives them instead

That is my concept of a true Man.

Maybe some distant day, I'll become one.

Stuck in Mud

I'm quite fortunate with my job. I'm fortunate because there are times when I can choose to work as little or as much as I want, and I'm fortunate because I often have the option of working from home. Good things, right?

I know a few people who have, or have had agoraphobia. Agora is greek for open place (yes I'm a nerd), hence agoraphobia since people who have it are usually afraid of being in large open spaces or of the public in general.
I wonder if there is a 'starting-your-day' phobia, because I think Im having that recently. I do good amounts of butt-kicking once I'm out and about, but it takes tremendous effort to 1.) get out of bed and 2.) get into 'productive' mode. It's a weird situation to be in, because a lack of productivity or accomplishment very quickly affects my self-worth. So you'd think that I would grab life by the... tail and make sure that I don't fall into this rut. You'd think!
So since this dimwit doesn't know of such a phobia, I've decided to name it myself. Knowing how to conjugate in latin would help here. The fact that there's like 3 billion words in latin that all mean start or commence doesn't help either! I should go cheesy and call it Carpe-Diem Phobia. For some reason I didn't like that movie as much as most. But I'll go with Occupo which apparently means "to take possession, grasp, seize, enjoy, get a start on." I like the grasping and seizign. A fear of seizing your day. Argh, stupid movie. Kinda stole my idea before I had it. Actually Incipeo and Ineo work too. So here are the options:

  • Incipediesophobia
  • Ineodiesophobia
  • Occupodiesophobia

I'm totally making this stuff up. Someone who knows latin will someday tonguelash me for this, and I won't mind as long as she's female and kinda cute.

Boss:"Why are you late? And why haven't done much work since you came in?"
DD:"Fool, I told you I suffer from Occupodiesophobia! Don't be discriminating! -Don't bother looking it up neither!"

Speaking of latin, though I hate most corporations for the fact that they'd sell their grandmother's dentures for a better bottom line, MGM has a pretty cool phrase written on it's insignia (you know, the lion thing, look on the ribbon). It says "ARS GRATIA ARTIS". I looked it up one of those serendipous days and it mean's "Art for art's sake". I know what you'er thinking, "Yea right! Maybe 50 years ago!" And yea, I'm sure the stockholders are real concerned about art. Regardless, it's a nice little phrase.

So yea, it's 2:26pm, I better start doing some work.
